Q&A

Questions we get asked a lot

Straight answers to the things most people want to know before starting a signage project.
01

What exactly does a signage design studio do?

Answer

We design signs and wayfinding systems, and we produce the documentation needed to build them. Think of us as the architect for your signage—we create the plans, specs, and drawings that fabricators and installers use to bring the project to life. We don’t manufacture or install signs ourselves.

02

Why wouldn’t I just have my sign company handle the design?

Answer

You can, and many do. But sign companies are optimized for production, not design development. When design is handled by someone whose primary expertise is fabrication, the creative tends to stay safe and the documentation tends to stay thin. We bring dedicated design thinking, code expertise, and production-ready documentation that most shops don’t have the bandwidth to produce.

03

How much does a typical project cost?

Answer

It depends on scope. A single storefront sign design might run a few thousand dollars. A multi-building wayfinding program with full documentation could be significantly more. We’ll give you a clear estimate after understanding your project—no surprises, no bait-and-switch.

04

How long does a project take?

Answer

Simple projects can wrap in 2–3 weeks. Complex wayfinding systems with multiple stakeholders might take 2–3 months. We’ll give you an honest timeline upfront and keep you updated throughout.

05

Do you work with clients outside of Oregon?

Answer

Yes. Most of our work is done remotely. We’ve worked with clients across the country. For local projects, we do site visits. For remote projects, we work from photos, surveys, and architectural drawings.

06

What do I need to get started?

Answer

A conversation. Tell us about your project—the space, the goals, the budget range, and the timeline. We’ll figure out the rest together. If you have architectural drawings, photos, or brand guidelines, those help too, but they’re not required to start.

07

Can you help with permits?

Answer

Yes. We research local sign codes, prepare permit-ready submittals, and can coordinate with your local jurisdiction. We’ve navigated everything from straightforward commercial permits to complex historic district reviews.

08

Do you offer revisions?

Answer

Every project includes revision rounds—typically two to three, depending on scope. We find that our process catches most issues early, so revisions tend to be refinements rather than overhauls. If scope changes significantly, we’ll discuss it before moving forward.
